After leading the Google-owned company for nine years, Wojcicki shared in a blog post that the time has come for her to step down. In her place, Neal Mohan, who has a successful track record as Chief Product Officer at YouTube, will take the reins as the new CEO. Wojcicki has stated that she will be available to assist with the transition process, and will continue to serve in an advisory capacity across Google and its parent company, Alphabet.

Susan Wojcicki's tenure as the CEO of YouTube has come to an end after nine years at the helm. Before joining YouTube, Wojcicki had a successful stint as the head of Google's display and video ads business. Her career at Google began in 1999 when she rented out her garage in Menlo Park to the company's co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Wojcicki has been listed as one of Forbes' Power Women for her contributions to the tech industry.

As Wojcicki steps down from her role, the tech world is buzzing with talk about the impact of AI chatbots like ChatGPT, which is now integrated with rival Microsoft's Bing Search, on the future of online search. In addition to this, there is also intense competition in the short-form video space, with platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels challenging YouTube's dominance.

Neal Mohan, who is set to take over as the new CEO of YouTube, is a Stanford graduate who has been with Google since 2008. Mohan is currently the chief product officer at YouTube, where he is responsible for overseeing projects such as YouTube Shorts and Music. He has also worked with Microsoft and serves on the board of Stitch Fix, a personal styling company, as well as the genomics and biotechnology company 23andMe. In addition, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, an independent US think tank.

Neal Mohan, is a highly sought-after technology executive who was once offered a Chief Product Officer role at Twitter. However, Google was able to retain Mohan by investing close to $100 million in his retention. Mohan has been described by a former boss as a unique combination of an "insatiable technologist" with strong business acumen to interact with customers on a strategic level.

Mohan, who is of Indian origin, joins the ranks of other Indian-American CEOs leading major global tech companies, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. In recent times, Indian-origin CEOs have also taken on leadership roles in other iconic US companies such as Laxman Narasimhan, who is set to take over as CEO of coffee chain Starbucks, and Raj Subramaniam, the CEO of FedEx, one of the world's largest transportation services companies. The appointment of Mohan as YouTube's CEO reflects the increasing diversity in leadership positions across the tech industry.
